SS Nomadic, Belfast
Launched on 25 April 1911 and now on display in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter
SS Nomadic is a former tender of the White Star Line, launched on 25 April 1911 in Belfast and now on display in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter. Built to transfer passengers and mail to and from RMS Olympic and RMS Titanic. Today she serves as museum, providing passengers with an interactive experience of what it was like aboard the Titanic.
Having worked successfully on The Titanic Exhibition in Belfast, Leach were commissioned to fulfil the design and build of interpretive furniture and hard-wearing internal and external graphics that complimented the interactive nature of the exhibition.
The exhibition stands in the shadow of the edifice of the main Titanic Experience. We produced and installed the furniture for the restored SS Nomadic vessel alongside Tandem Design. The units had to be designed to counter the slope and lean of the vessel in its dry dock – not an easy proposition! Constructed in segments, we were restricted by the narrow openings and doorways of the vessel and had to design construction principles accordingly.
Working within the conservation status of the steam ship, we had to take great care in not affecting in anyway the original fabric of the vessel, or the beautifully restored interior.
A striking external interpretive signage scheme, complete with audio and tactile interactives was manufactured using Leach Vault graphic signage and specially manufactured Corten steel frames.
Our Vault panels come with a ten-year warranty and are weatherproof and chemical resistant, meaning rain or shine our panels remain the same. The quality of our products means that the museum’s 850,000 annual visitors are more than welcome to interactive with our signage and the museum can be confident in the longevity and quality for their visitors.
We consistently work to ensure we have the best quality products in our range. Our range constantly evolving and expanding. Our latest additions are focused on eco-friendly options. We offer an eco-alternative to most of our range, this includes an eco-Vault product. Despite the eco label, the product performs exactly as its predecessor, offering the same quality and reassurance.
Our team’s collaborative efforts are celebrated in this project and shine through in the professional, high-quality finish.
