Redefining Event Showcases: Building an Interactive Fire Safety Demonstration Wall for Lindab
The Brief
Recently ventilation solutions specialist Lindab approached Leach as they prepared to exhibit at The Fire Safety Event 2026. Their team required an engaging and practical demonstration wall that could effectively show the performance and construction of their products.
The project marked a new relationship for Leach, introduced through marketing agency Fantastic Media. With a short lead time and a technically demanding brief, Leach was selected for its ability to combine creative thinking with in-house fabrication expertise and project delivery.
The 3-day exhibition took place at the NEC in Birmingham, with the interactive demonstration wall needing to be designed around a shell scheme specification provided by event third parties. Lindab’s initial brief centred around the creation of a large demonstration wall capable of securely displaying multiple products, such as their Lindab fire dampers and Disys Technologies systems, in a visually striking and functional way. Alongside this, the stand also required a series of individually branded podiums, showcasing Lindab Protect, Disys Technologies, Ductmann, Thor Duct, FireSmart and Lindab Technical Solutions products. These also required integrated storage to support the Lindab team during the event and ensure the stand was as seamless and visually aesthetic possible.
The Solution
Leach developed a completely bespoke freestanding 3-metre demonstration wall, engineered specifically to support the weight and configuration of the products which were embedded into the construction. Early in the design process, it became clear that a traditional fabric-based solution would not provide the structural integrity required, so the team explored a more robust fabricated approach.
Using Lindab’s original drawings and specifications of the solution they envisaged, the Leach team carefully calculated product weights, fixing requirements and spacing tolerances to create a safe and practical display solution. The structure itself was CNC cut from timber and engineered with weighted supports to ensure complete stability when on the exhibition stand.
Durability and finish were equally important considerations. Printed graphics were applied to the face of the structure using a hardwearing Santex laminate, helping the display withstand handling throughout the event while maintaining a clean, premium appearance.
The project also incorporated integrated LED lighting, designed to illuminate the sequence in which the products were connected to each other, enabling greater visual impact across the stand. Leach collaborated closely with the Lindab product team to ensure the sequence was accurate and visually engaging for the audience. Leach’s design and production teams also worked together to develop the wiring approach, product triggers and lighting integration, ensuring all technical elements were fully prewired ahead of installation.
Alongside the feature wall, Leach produced four bespoke podiums with built-in storage and integrated underside LED lighting powered by battery packs. Careful planning was required to ensure the battery systems met the NEC’s regulations while remaining fully concealed within the finished units.
As the project moved into detailed design, Leach coordinated all production, logistics and installation requirements, including the construction, derigging and the distribution of display elements back to Lindab’s head office following the event.
One of the main challenges throughout the project was working within the constraints of the shell scheme exhibition space. The demonstration wall required extremely fine tolerances to ensure it fitted perfectly within the allocated footprint while still allowing safe access.
During installation, the actual dimensions of the shell scheme differed slightly from the organiser’s drawings which were originally supplied. Drawing on their experience and problem-solving approach, Leach slightly adapted the structure’s specification to ensure the finished demo wall aligned perfectly within the available space.
The Result
Despite the complexity involved, the entire project moved from concept through to installation in just six weeks, beginning in March and completing in time for the event at the end of April.
The finished exhibition stand delivered a clean, impactful and highly functional environment that allowed Lindab to demonstrate its range of products across various brands effectively while standing out within a busy exhibition hall.
The bespoke demonstration wall became the centrepiece of the stand, allowing visitors to interact with the products, whilst also acting as a conversational piece for those entirely new to the brand. The podiums complemented the rest of the display by creating additional product interaction points while discreetly incorporating practical storage.
The project highlighted Leach’s ability to deliver far more than print alone, combining fabrication, technical problem solving, project management and installation expertise within a tight turnaround.
“By collaborating closely with our teams throughout the process, Leach helped us to transform a complex exhibition stand into an interactive visitor experience, which effectively allowed us to showcase our various products confidently and with impact.
“The wider Group was very pleased with the end-to-end solution Leach provided, which also kick started some key conversations with organisations who require our ventilation systems at one of the industry’s leading events.”
