Quality & Safety Compliance Officer

Job type: Full-time

Salary: £30k-£38k dependent on experience

Working location: Huddersfield (On-site)

18 months Fixed Term Contract (Maternity Cover)

What you’ll be doing:

  • Act as a key representative for all aspects related to quality, health, safety, and environmental management.
  • Review, update, and maintain policies, procedures, and controlled documents required by the health, safety, and environmental system, including risk assessments and procedural guidelines.
  • Assist in reporting, investigating, and analysing incidents involving injury, damage, or loss, ensuring corrective actions are taken and documented appropriately.
  • Collect and analyse data for environmental reporting.
  • Participate as an internal auditor, ensuring timely completion of assigned audits, maintaining records, and addressing findings effectively, including closing of NCs.
  • Support the retention of ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certifications, while assisting with ISO 45001 compliance, ensuring adherence to relevant legislation.
  • Manage relationships with external contractors and support staff and contractors in complying with environmental, health & safety legislation, client standards, and contractual agreements.
  • Use management information systems to effectively capture and report accurate data and manage and distribute information within the business.
  • Ensure training requirements are coordinated and delivered, with records maintained accordingly, including employee inductions and toolbox talks.
  • Participate in regular safety inspections and risk assessments to identify and address non-compliance.
  • Maintain COSHH inventory and ensure safety data sheets are current.
  • Assist in planning emergency drills and liaise with external agencies.
  • Assist with the development of improvement campaigns/plans.
  • Track legal and compliance requirements and support audits.

What you bring to the team:

  • Prior experience in a Quality, Health & Safety role (minimum 2 years), or completed university studies in a relevant course.
  • A Health and Safety qualification (such as the NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH or equivalent). Additional qualifications in Quality are desirable.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safe work systems and familiarity with 9001/14001/45001 frameworks.
  • ISO Internal Auditor certification.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated; able to work independently.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior management.
  • Capable in emergency situations.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint & SharePoint).
  • Audit experience and understanding of audit processes.
  • Experience in an QHS role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of UK EHS regulations and standards.
