Treasure at The Museum of Liverpool

The Brief

As part of their latest exhibition, National Museums Liverpool (NML) commissioned Leach to produce a series of large-format display solutions that would transform the gallery environment and support the storytelling of Treasure – a celebration of artifacts unearthed from Wales and the northwest of England.

The exhibition aimed to showcase the fascinating history of the region through rare archaeological finds, giving visitors the opportunity to explore and connect with their local heritage. To achieve this, NML required an engaging and cohesive visual scheme that could guide visitors through the space and highlight key moments within the collection.

Having worked with Leach for a number of years, NML turned once again to the team’s expertise in production and installation to bring their vision to life. This long-standing partnership, built on trust, service quality and attention to detail, made Leach the natural choice to deliver the project.

The Solution

Working closely with NML’s exhibition team, Leach produced and installed a range of bespoke graphic solutions designed to enhance the visitor experience and complement the curatorial narrative.

The project included the production of 6 lightboxes and 25 tension graphics, 116 meters of full wallpaper graphics, and a series of object labels. These elements were carefully planned to ensure they worked seamlessly alongside the artifacts and displays, adding depth and atmosphere to the exhibition.

With a tight installation window and the museum’s team installing artifacts simultaneously, precision and coordination were critical. A specialist team of three Leach installers worked efficiently on-site to complete the project within the short timeframe, ensuring minimal disruption to the wider exhibition setup.

From initial briefing to final installation, the project was completed within a very short turnaround, starting in August with the install taking place in the first week of September. The result was a fully transformed gallery space that reflected NML’s ambition to create a dynamic, informative, and visually immersive exhibition environment.

The Results

The completed exhibition achieved exactly what NML set out to deliver – a visually captivating and educational experience that invites visitors to discover the hidden stories behind the region’s archaeological treasures.

The lightboxes, featuring maps and contextual graphics, encouraged exploration and helped visitors connect locations to the objects on display, while the wallpaper provided a cohesive backdrop that tied the exhibition together.

Feedback from the client was extremely positive, with NML praising the quality of print, smooth installation process, and professional delivery.

The Treasure exhibition stands as a testament to how thoughtful design, expert production, and seamless installation can combine to create an inspiring museum experience.
