Last month Leach featured in the highly sought after retail publication Print Monthly, discussing the latest recycling innovations and upcoming eco solutions…
1. INTRODUCE LEACH AND THE PRODUCTS YOU OFFER…
Leach is a large format, graphic display specialist, renowned for its Vision Lightboxes – the culmination of years of research, innovation and expertise. Bringing together HD quality print, an aluminium profile design and LED illumination, lightboxes are used across various sectors to create attractive and engaging customer-facing environments.
In addition, Leach provides a range of products and services – including acoustic solutions, wallcoverings and external signage – in the retail, leisure, construction and heritage arenas, to name a few.
2. WHERE DID THE IDEA FOR THE ‘ECO-SCREEN’ STEM FROM?
Leach has always had an ‘eco’ conscience, with products in the range incorporating LED lights for energy efficiency, and changeable wallpapers to promote re-usability and reduction in transport costs.
In recent times however, aware of the environmental credentials that companies are expected to meet, Leach has taken a step further, inviting customers to take part in a series of ‘innovation forums’ throughout the year. These open debate sessions allow clients to put forward their concerns and requirements for future products, and as a customer-focused business, this has helped Leach to work with these organisations to shape its R&D.
Leach’s offerings now take into account environmental pressures faced by society today. The Eco-Screen is just one of the resulting products – a fabric made from 100% recycled yarn which can be used for front and back-lit displays with no reduction in quality – requiring two recycled bottles to produce 1m2. When a graphic update is required, the original can be returned to Leach for onward recycling. Interestingly, clients also don’t have to pay any extra for this more eco-friendly alternative.
The carbon footprint benefits are further maximised when the Eco-Screen is used on the new Leach Box, an ultra-bright illuminated display product using a flexible lightsheet as the LED backboard. This then allows the product to be rolled up and transported in a recycled tube, in the back of a car rather than larger vehicles.
3. HAS LEACH EXPERIENCED A SHIFT IN CONSUMER DEMAND FOR SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS? HOW HAS THE MARKET CHANGED IN TERMS OF RECYCLED/RECYCLABLE PRODUCTS?
Leach has certainly seen a shift in demand for sustainable products, although this has been across some industries more than others. There are still businesses out there playing catch-up, as for some of them the need to ‘be green’ is a very new concept although it is slowly starting to become ‘the norm’.
Traditionally, environmentally friendly products are more expensive which has held back the uptake in these alternatives. Because Leach has developed innovations without there being any commercial detriment, this should hopefully help to further fuel demand.
4. HOW DO YOU THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX WHEN IT COMES TO RECYCLING WITHIN A PRINT BUSINESS?
It isn’t just about looking at recyclable materials – it’s going one stage further and producing a return-to-base model.
Leach always tries to think ‘outside the box’ – an example being with so called ‘white waste’. By using the maximum area of each roll of material – an action managed by the Quality Management Team – the company actively seeks to reduce its own waste, with a recycling rate of 98%.
5. WHAT’S IN STORE FOR THE FUTURE OF LEACH?
The entire range of Leach’s eco products will soon feature in a samples book, which we hope will inspire prospective and existing customers to think ‘greener’.
The eco versions of the products certainly lend themselves to multiple sectors including retail, construction and exhibitions, continuing the trend of more environmentally-conscious businesses.
Leach will continue to push its new range out to all parties, to aid the quest to reduce waste and become carbon neutral itself.
6. ANYTHING ELSE TO ADD?
Leach is looking forward to introducing other substrates into the market, following the popularity of the Leach Box and Eco-Screen. It’s great to assist people in reducing their carbon footprint!
